I'd like to go if you will have me. I'm pretty low maintenance. I went down in October, good times. The campground was closed for renovation. It will be interesting to see the changes.

ya, I"m still around. went to a different shift to get away from dumb people. lol will try to do april if everything works out allright. good to see people are starting to think about getting out. It's been too damn cold for me. kids say i'm getting old, just becouse I can remember life before computers . ha ha

It doesn't seem like Spring is near but technically it is only four weeks away. I don't know about you guys but I am tired of being inside. Looking forward to some quality out-door time as the weather gets nicer.

Turkey season starts Monday April 19th. The weekend of the 3rd would work best for me but I could do the 10th also.

Boy this site is still dead. kkirt my Dad was originally the one who suggested in April. Now he's going to have cataract surgey in mid-March and acts like he doesn't want to go go. I'm gonna still try and go the 3rd or 10th works for me.

A friend of mine and I are thinking the 10th. Hopefully it warms up by then. I'll know more next week.

The site is pretty dead lately... what, nobody riding anymore?

I still get on here every now and then. Been too cold to ride. April sounds like a good month to go ride. Looking for warmer weather. I've got a winch and a flat pack mounting system to get installed. The 10th and 11th is a kid free weekend for me. Might try to make this ride.

Just talked with Lawnkiller. Once he checks with his "event cordinator", we might be up for this trip.

I would love to go.. but I think thats the weekend of a friends wedding.. I will have to check.

I just had a wrench thrown in my trip gears. But it's a good thing. My sons principal called this morning and told me my son will be going to the Kansas State Geography Bee on April 9th. In the principals 15 year career at this school, this is only the second student to qualify to go. I'm stoked. I hope to get back in time for Andy and I to get there late Friday night. Or we'll leave REAL early Saturday morning. I want to ride bad.

So, who all is trying to make this trip?

Pretty sure bet Andy and I will be there. I want to get back early enough from my son's event so we can get down there late Friday. Should we reserve a spot? I don't know if I have the link anymore to do that. Anyone have it? How cold do you think it might get at night? Would want electric site if it does get cold. I've camped with my son and his Scout troop enough this winter to not want to spend anymore cold nights in a tent.

It looks like they still aren't done with the renovation.

"Campground was closed in early October of 2009 for renovation of existing facilities. It was hoped that a final inspection of work performed would have been done in December 2009, however this did not happen and inclement weather has further delayed final work reviews. We will post opening information as soon as it becomes available and appreciate your continued patience."

Maybe it will open by the 10th. There are some spots on the South end of the park that would accomodate larger groups but they don't have power. When we were there last October we camped right off the main road since the campground was closed. I think I liked that better.

A friend and I are planning on coming down late Friday night or early Saturday morning. Looking forward to meeting some of the new guys.

What is the outlook for camping if the campground is closed? Are there any areas to "legally" camp in around the area?

We will probably be in late Friday night too.

Because it is part of the National Forest system, you can legally camp anywhere that is not specifically closed to camping (i.e. the day use area.) The question is how primitive do you want your campsite to be.

I plan on going down Thursday. I don't care how primitive it is since my family isn't coming. My friend backed out, hopefully Smokey or Dave will want to go.

As long as there's space for the tent. I think that's all we need.

A friend and I are definitely coming down. I plan on being there Friday night or Saturday morning depending on work and weather. I just looked and the campsite is still closed. The message on their website has been updated but still doesn't give an opening date. I think it is going to be find the first place to pitch the tent and setup camp.

Who else is coming?

We'll be in a white Dodge quad cab 2WD long bed with a black Echo trailer. A Blue Sportsman800 and a black and sliver 500 X2.

I'm may leave thursday. I will post where I find a place to camp

We are going down Friday afternoon. I'll be driving a white GMC 2500 pulling a Black Polaris 500, Green Polaris 500 and a Grizzly as a backup.

I'm leaving friday about 6:00pm, I'm driving a Chevy Crew cab, with a 700 Polaris Sportsman, Honda Rincon, Yamaha Blaster, Honda CR125

I ended up getting down there Saturday around noon, I stayed by the pavillion with some guys I knew. My Blackberry is screwed up and I couldn't remember what kkirt1 and Andy said they were driving, but I think I knew where you guys were by 105. You guys never seemed to be there when I rode by. The campground being closed sucked. I'm so used to having power when I go down there, I had no way to air up tires without my air compressor, so I bought a hand air pump at that powersports store in Bolivar. My stepson somehow managed to break it in 10 minutes, I also have those CO2 cartridges but someone used them all and didn't tell me . I ended up having three flats, but my neighbors were helpful.

On our first ride we went down 105 to 113 when some guy on a dirt bike in front of us it a root and ended up landing in the cow pasture and breaking his arm. I gave him a ride back to camp and giving his friend a ride back to his bike. So we continued around 113 when the clutch cable on the blaster. We got it back to camp, and I went to that motorsports store in Sparta to get a clutch cable. Unfortunately my friend got there last warrior cable(which will work on a blaster if your ever in a bind) the day before. Two of us decided to go for a night ride down 122 where I ended getting a flat on the Sportmans and discovered that I didn't have any CO2 cartridges. That ended that ride. This morning we headed to Rattlesnake Cave and to Stump Spring. On the way back we were going up 104 when the chain broke on my stepson CR250 and cracked the case, so we ended up pulling it back. So it wasn't the greatest trip I think I got 30 miles in. I still had some fun and met some interesting people.
